Quantum topology is a very fun land at the confluence of algebra, topology, and physics. With a motivating quest to find nice (functorial!) ways to study knotted ropes in space, we will take a stroll through this land, and meet some of its foundational ideas and results. By the end, you will appreciate the surprising connections between knots and Lie algebras, including understanding the fabled associators of Drinfeld.
